Arsenal 1 - 3 Manutd 01/02/2010
Ratings by Nick Coppack
Edwin van der Sar A quiet day for the Dutchman as Arsenal rarely hit the target. No chance with the goal, which was deflected off Jonny Evans.
Rafael Early on it looked like the youngster might be in for a tough day but he regained composure and made a number of timely tackles, particularly on Andrei Arshavin.
Jonny Evans A poor header just before full-time presented Gallas with a half chance, but that aside Evans was typically solid. Advanced out of defence to great effect on one ocassion.
Wes Brown You'd never have known Wes was ill. The defender played a big part in keeping Arsenal at bay and only rarely allowed Arshavin space to run at him.
Patrice Evra Not one of Pat's swash-buckling displays where he's up and down the touchline like a yo-yo, but the Frenchman – skipper for the day – hardly put a foot wrong. Neat and tidy.
Nani His best game yet for United? Perhaps. He was direct and used the ball cleverly – his early crosses caused particular concern for the Gunners' back four. A constant threat.
Michael Carrick Sensational in the centre of the park, where he did as much to contain Fabregas as he did to launch United into attack on numerous occasions. His passing game shone.
Darren Fletcher Not one of Fletch's trademark all-action performances, but the
Scot was nonetheless effective, breaking down attacks and regularly winning the ball on the edge of United's box.
Paul Scholes One or two lapses gifted possession to Arsenal but Scholes otherwise did a fine job in midfield, first in the holding role and then in a more advanced position.
Ji-sung Park Linked superbly with Rooney throughout the 90 minutes and did wonderfully well to keep his composure and score his first goal of the season. Typically busy in defence, too.
Wayne Rooney Yet another "world-class" performance, according to Sir Alex. Few would disagree. Rooney's first touch and hold-up play was terrific all day and his goal simply sensational.
SUBSTITUTES
Ryan Giggs (on for Scholes, 72) His experience and calmness on the ball proved vital when Arsenal tails went up after Vermaelen's late consolation goal.
Antonio Valencia (on for Park, 87) No time to make a significant impact.
Dimitar Berbatov (on for Nani, 89) See Valencia.
Arsenal 1- 3 Manutd
scorer: Almunia (OG 32), Rooney (36), Park (51), Vermaelen (79)
